  • Vermonter Mollie Beattie (1947-1996), the first woman to head the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, has been named an Honoree of the 2009 National Women's History Month: Women Taking the Lead to Save Our Planet.  Amongst other things, Beattie oversaw the reintroduction of the gray wolf into the Rocky Mountains.  Congress recently named a wilderness area in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in her honor.
